About the Company
The history of Borovichi Refractories Plant began in 1857, when Emmanuel Nobel, Swedish
scientist and industrialist, on the basis of kaolin of Borovichi - Lyubytino deposits built the first
Russian plant for manufacturing "fire resistant bricks" from the local "fire resistant" clays.
Nowadays, the Joint Stock Company Borovichi Refractories Plant is one of the biggest modern
facilities with complete production cycle. Its range of products includes 34 different types of
refractories comprising more than 2,500 shapes and sizes. The main types of products are:
- alumino silicate refractories for various applications;
- refractories for continuous steel casting;
- periclase-carbon bricks;
- periclase-spinel bricks;
- low-cement castables;
- mixes on the base of high-alumina cement;
- alumino silicate mortars.
In 1994, Borovichi Refractories commenced the development of ceramic proppant
manufacturing process to satisfy new demands of the market. Pilot production of proppants
began in 1996. In the very same year, our commercially available proppants were successfully
tested by the first customers servicing Russian oil fields.
The JSCs Quality System applying to design, development and production of alumino
silicate, corundum-graphite and periclase-carbon refractories and ceramic proppants is certified
in accordance with the Russian State Standard GOST R ISO 9001-2001 (ISO 9001:2000).
Quality of the proppants is also evaluated in accordance with API Recommended Practices for
Testing High-Strength Proppants Used in Hydraulic Fracturing Operations/API Recommended
Practice, 2d edition, December 1995. The high quality of Borovichi Refractories' proppants has
been proved by independent FracTech and Stim-Lab laboratories, the recognized specialists in
testing oil field products.
Since 2000, the JSC Borovichi Refractories Plant has been the member of Proppant Consortium.
The Russian Federal Institute of Industrial Property registered Borovichi Refractories proppant
under BORPROP trade mark. In 2003, the Quality System of JSC Borovichi Refractories Plant was
assessed by API and found to be in compliance with the quality system requirements of API
Specification Q1, 6th edition, which was revised to the end of 2003. The transition for
Specification Q1, 7th edition was followed by the subsequent audit of API in 2004. Again, the
assessment performed by API was successful, and now JSC Borovichi Refractories Plant has API
registered Quality System. The scope of this registration and approved quality management
system applies to the Design and Manufacture of Ceramic Proppants for the Oil and Gas
Industries under IAF Scope Category 15.
JSC BRP is a leader of Russian economy. It was awarded diplomas of the Exhibition "Russian
Traditions of Quality" and the Regional competition "For Quality". It became a prizewinner of
the contest "Top 10 Goods of Novgorod region". In 2000 and 2002, Borovichi Refractories Plant
was a laureate of the Russia-wide competition "Top 100 Goods of Russia" for manufacturing
high quality products. For continuous quality of the products and important contribution to the
development of the economy of Novgorod region, Borovichi Refractories Plant was honored
